Discover How Your Business Can Benefit From Recruiting a Diverse Work Force
Tuesday 24th February 2004
Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre, Glasgow
(Part of The Gathering, Scotland First Voluntary Sector Fair)
It is widely agreed among our membership that there is a need to develop meaningful and productive relationships between support agencies and employers. To kickstart this process, we organised an event on 24th February 2004 with the aims of:
- raising awareness among employers about the potential for employing people "who are at a considerable distance from the labour market and have not traditionally participated in mainstream training programmes."
- giving employers an opportunity to discuss their needs and concerns.
- creating positive attitudes by providing opportunities for employers to meet with those who already have experience of employing people with health and social care needs.
- providing information about available support for employers from government and non-government sources.
- developing work practices and procedures that will allow people to obtain and sustain employment.
This was the first time GGNSE had engaged with employers. The response from the mailshot was encouraging with nearly 90 employers and managers from all sectors registering to attend the event. On the day, 69 delegates attended and overall, including speakers and organisers, a total of 96 people took part in the event.
Broadcaster Lesley Riddoch chaired the conference and provided a knowledgeable overview of the issues.
